Airlie Beach to Sydney

Saturday 2nd March
Nick and Teri had upgraded our apartment. they had given us a room with a view(and a bottle of fizz in the fridge). It was a pity that we were only here for one day. The apartment had a washing machine and dryer among its many facilities so I managed to get the laundry up to date again.

We left Airlie Beach in the rain at a little after 9:00am but the rain didn't last long. By the time we had taken the ferry and arrived in Hamilton Island at a little after 10:30 the sky was clear and the sun shining. It promised to be a good day but that feeling was soon spoilt when we were told that our Jokestar (Jetstar) flight was delayed by more than an hour. We knew that we would probably miss our connecting flight in Brisbane and we did. We bought a sandwich and a cup of coffee and watched the time slip slowly by each minute proclaiming the inevitable missed flight. Luckily, in Brisbane we were able to get the next flight to Sydney which only gave us an extra hour to wait. We finally arrived in Sydney  in the middle of the Gay Mardi Gras at 7:30pm. It was another hour before we found out hotel.

Our Hotel in Sydney ( the masonic club) was a quaint 1920's style hotel that time forgot, right in the center of Sydney. It had been refurbished in 1980's  but kept in its original splendor. As we sat in the dining room having breakfast the next morning we could imagine Poirot and Hastings entering through the huge doorway
